IGNATIAN SPIRITUALITY

The Daily Examen

St. Ignatius of Loyola's foundational practice of reviewing the day in God's presence — finding him in all things and growing in self-knowledge and gratitude.

Step 1

Gratitude

Give Thanks for the Day

Begin by placing yourself in God's presence and giving thanks. Not a generic "thank you," but a specific review of the day's gifts. The meal you enjoyed. The conversation that surprised you. The moment of unexpected beauty. Gratitude is the foundation of the Examen — it re-orients the heart toward the Giver of all good things.

Reflection

Name three specific things from today for which you are genuinely grateful. Sit with each one.

V OCTOBRIS MMXXVI

"If you are what you should be, you will set the whole world ablaze."

— St. Catherine of Siena
